How many points, or Cue Tips of English do you Play on the Cue Ball

Was talking to a guy yesterday who is a pretty good Three Cushion Player. We were discussing his game, and the subject of English came up.

He said he views the Cue Ball as a Target with a Dead Center X, an X ring, a 10 Ring, a 9 Ring, and last an 8 Ring (the farthest out point on the Cue Ball where it can be hit without a MisCue) Each Ring being 1 full Cue Tip From Dead Center Cue Ball Hit.

Also the Cue Ball is dissected with line at at 6-to-12 O Clock, 1:30-to-7:30, 9-to-3 O Clock, and last 10:30-to-4:30.

Giving about 65 Point to Hit the Cue Ball for a Shot, counting a dead Center Hit.

When I got home I thought about all these possibilities for hitting a Cue Ball, and I think 65 point of possibilities is a few too many.

But was wonder if any of you use that many point of hit to control English, and where you Cue Ball arrives after it hit the Object Ball?

When i play english i like 9 -3:15-3:30 to get the ball hoppin Runnin i use 11:- 1:00 full strokes only and the ball can do some real nice things it's all in your wrist and stroke..
 
Someone said once to take a striped ball and put the stripe horizontal to the cloth. Your tip shouldn't leave the stripe area when applying top and bottom english. I assume the same goes if you put the stripe perpendicular to the cloth for left and right english.
 
KISS method ...

I look at shot, cue it, and think either:

Not enough
Too much
Just Right

It is much easier on your brain when you are trying to play,
and hey, it works for me ... lol

It is more of a visualization and feel technique.
