how to attach Gandy pocket ball return extender?

I have a Gandy big g or hustler not sure which model it is. It has the fiberglass and rubber ball return and i cannot figure out the intended way to attach the gully extender to the pocket and ball return. The person I bought the table from screwed the pocket liner and extender together from the inside of the pockets, but that will cause damage to the balls so I know thats not right. I am trying staples from the back side of the pocket, but that doesn't seem like a very good hold... Anyone know the right way to do this?

Most of them were originally sewn together. You can still do this with some heavy guage thread. I had to get creative with zipties once also. use a sharp awl to make some small holes with either method.

No kidding, I would have never guessed that. The zipties sounds like a goos idea for a time saver or if you don't have a needle and thread. I really appreciate the help Scruffy, now I can finally finish this table and play some pool.
