I keep seeing references to hub cues, or hub-style cues? Could someone explain what this means to a relative newbie? Thanks.

The first cues to have an additional joint above the handle are what is commonly reffered to as "hub style" cues. The original hub cue was first made by the legendary Herman Rambow while he was working with Brunswick-Baulke-Collender Co. Usually the collar material is made of ivory and if you can find one of these cues in good shape you better snatch it!!!

So it was a 3-piece cue? What was the point of that, and what does the name "hub" come from? Thanks.
