...what happened to night. It was the first night of the TAP pool league which I joined this weekend. Can't begin to tell how nervous I was going to an away game in front of a bunch of players I didn't know! With my game still not up to par and then to top it all off they put me up first against a 6 handicap player! It was a 3/3 match and I lost the lag so I was figuring I'd be sitting for a while. Well I didn't sit as long as I thought I would and it didn't take long me to calm down and take the first two matches. Lost the third game with a side bank shot that just bobbled off the pocket tip a few times and never fell! I had perfect position for the 2 ball (a tap in) and then the 8 ball (tap in as well) for the game /match. I was robbed!!
Between him turning his game on and me going through a slump, the match came down to a race to one. Nothing on the break for him so I got it started off. I lay of the high balls looked real nice so I made a nice combination to claim them. Sad part was, I had to call a foul on myself because the cue ball came back and hit my cue tip
Nobody saw it and a few players from my team freak-ed when I picked up the cue ball and gave it to him. Everybody thought it was a clean shot but I knew it wasn't and couldn't play that way. I might have been away for a while but I never lost the respect or sportsmanship for the game!
He ended up working the few trouble balls out with the ball in hand and it looked like it was all over. Lucky for me, the same pool god that robbed me on the bank shot, came back and robbed him when he sank the 8 ball before he ran out.
I sure didn't want to win that way but I'll take it. I felt pretty confidant that if he didn't scratch that 8 ball? I was going to run out! The high balls were just sitting too nice to not be able to run them especially with all but one of the lows out of the way
I'm sorry for going on and on but I just had to share my official first night back. Tried telling my wife and all I hear is, "yep, that's nice", "good for you" or "what's a combination?"
