I have an idea...

Because I am having a hell of a time trying to track down the value of one of my Joss cues I came up with an idea for a web site. I would need the assistance of many people including some of you cue collectors and makers. It would be like the blue book of cues except online. The problem that I have is I do not have pictures of, or access to, a lot of the high end cues. That is where you collectors would come in. I think something like this would be invaluable to a collector or even someone that would like to drool over some of the nice cues out there. With some of this information I could develop an online cue appraiser that would allow you to put in the specs of a manufacturer, types of wood and special feature and have it compare against a database of cues from that manufacturer and come up with a ball park value.

So what do you say? I think with a little bit of work we could come up with an awesome site. Who wants to chip in?

That could work if you can gather enough data and keep it up to date. One of the biggest problems is the sale value of cues is constantly varying in a fashion more similar to the fine art market than the used car market.

One possibilty would be to track Ebay auctions, noting the final selling prices in the database. However I'd imagine this would require a lot of manual data entry unless a clever programmer can figure out a way of automating it (Kind of like one of those Ebay bid sniper programs, but just recording data insted of entering bids)

I have some data-drive web site development experience. If you want to discuss the possibilities further PM me.

another problem is, there is already a blue book of pool cues online lol. If you goto the blue book website, you can buy a year for 26 or 27 bucks. Its not quite the same as having the book, but you can look up cues by makers, see pictures of their cues and get price estimates. I got it about a month ago and like it fine for the money
