I have never seen this...what next?

In the 5-6 years I have played straight pool, I have never seen this happen. I was trying to get the cue back for a break shot on the 1 ball and the cue ball ended up coming to rest on the spot. Well, the indention on the spot (not necessarily exactly centered on the spot).

Does the cue ball end up in the kitchen or does it stay in position and is racked with the other balls?

Cue ball goes anywhere in the kitchen. I think I only saw it once where it wound up exactly on the spot myself.
