There I said it!, screw fast cloth! I have nothing against Simonis, just fast cloth. Last week I went "outta town" and played in an old bowling alley that had 10 GCI's. Very clean room, but all the tables had the slower Mali type cloth on them. I was gonna leave, but said what the hell, and played some great 14.1. I think having to slug the ball a bit got me into deadpop quicker. The cloth was'nt new, but in good shape. Bring back the slower cloth, and the stroke to play well on it!.....G

Gosh, I haven't played on slow cloth for a long time! Everyone just thinks the only cloth out there is Simonis.

I dunno Rick, I think the lack of skids, sliding, twisting, deflection and all those things associated with Simonis, was nice to play on. That and letting the stroke out. I learned on tables like that, so it was like old home week.

What about in the WPC huh?

Do they play in fast cloth or slow cloth?

just curious... :D

Regards....

I learned on tables like that too. At first, I hated simonis but what could I do, all the ph's had it. I'm looking forward to seeing how this IPT will do. I got my fingers crossed!

I don't know for sure but I'd be real surprised if they don't play on Simonis.

I too learned to play in slow, heavy Mali-style cloth. Simonis (and similar napless worsted cloths) is certainly a big change the first time you encounter it. At first I thought it was a cheap low-quality cloth because it felt so artificial (like a cheap nylon shirt instead of a cotton one) and I have experienced a few times when the cue ball slipped or slid on contact which would not have done on a napped cloth.

However overall I prefer it, and not so much because of the speed but because it's surface tends to stay very consistent as it wears. Of course it slows down a bit, like all cloth does, but if the table was level to start with and the Simonis properly applied you know after a year of heavy use balls will still roll straight on it. With the heavy nap cloths this is not usually the case in my experience, and the increased lifespan and better wear over time has been one of Simonis' main selling points beyond speed and lack of nap. But for pro tournaments like the putative IPT tournaments, when tables are setup with brand new cloth properly installed it would be fine.
