I was at the Sands in Reno in 86 and was in line at Arbys for lunch the line was long and he was in front of me, we started chatting and I asked if I could sit with him-it was my first year in college, I remember this giant ring he had on he showed it to me, We discussed business and he was very pleased with his K-Mart contract. We didnt talk about pool at all, Then a year or 2 later at the Sands I ran into him again at Arbys and he remembered me, which i thought was cool. I dont remember much of our second meeting. Never saw him again, I just found out of his passing a couple months ago, I didnt know he was sick, I retired from pool in 94, alot has changed. But I'll never forget the first time I met him-he was the first famous person I met. He was a true gentlman, i think he even paid for our lunches.

I met Steve at one of his Senior's events on a golf course in North Carolina.

He was stitting at the table near the door taking money, He waved me though for free, smiled and said, "now you can't say I never gave you anything".

He was someone that I really admired and I will never forget that kind gesture as long as I live.

Post

I wanted to post so the kids post would be lowered.

FWIW, I really love watching Miz play. I have a few accu-stats with him. His player review tape of a 9b match with Strickland was top notch.

Bad Idea!

:( Actually I would consider that a bad move. I would much rather see a post about the Miz liking kids then the post above yours. We have no idea of that post's validity. It was made by an imposter.:p
After all he was a school teacher and he did enjoy kids. I remember visiting Steve at his pool room in Florida. It was after the stroke and even though he could no longer play there he was rolling pool balls around on the floor with who I believe was his infant Grandson.:D I also remember going to the room in Metuchen, NJ. Many of us kids learned to play there.;)
Sorry just my 2 cents.:)

seriuosly we did eat at Arbys togerther at the Sands, I was star struck to say the least. He was a living legend and to have his attention for 15 minutes was amazing, i was in my first year of college and he asked me about that, etc. I went to the pay phone it was 85 so no cell phones, and called my mom to tell her, she liked him too, we watched the matches between Miz and Hopkins on TV in the 70's and the Lite Beer commercial etc. I still get goose bumps thinking about it,

I just bought his G.Szam and am working a deal on his playing cue a Richard Black. I posted pictures of the Szam in the photo gallery its the fancy one, I have a letter of authtication. When I get his Richard Black I'm going to make a display in my pool room in my home within a year-were still in construction. the dizsplay will be the Miz collection, behind glass and theft proof.
