Okay, so everyone knows that my fav wood is BdR (Bois de Rose)...aka Madacasgar rosewood, or as I like to call it...Mad Rosewood...Lol.:D I like it soooo much, that I am considering changing my AZB ID to something like 'Bois de Rosie'....LOL!!! I am very seriously considering assembling a BdR collection..small as it may be.

So, with all that said, and because I KNOW there are a few of you, (Fred?), with BdR cues, I would like to see what is exactly out there.:)

That's what I'm talkin' about!!:D Thanks Jamie, I was hoping that you would post that one here. It's a wonderful example, and the first BdR on BdR cue I have ever seen. And, I like the fact that the 'character' of the wood is immediately apparent in this one. Wish I could figure out a way to fund it.:( Still brainstorming though...lol...always brainstorming!;)

Hi Lisa,

I like the wood, too. It's dark with a subtle shading that doesn't show up unless the light is bright.

Here's one that has a BdR handle with ebony trim rings & pink ivory chain links.

I made another that had BdR points & buttsleeve with a black/red speck linen wrap. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pics since the cue was pretty basic.

WOW! Bob, that handle is the bomb!! Like the chain ringwork too...very nice!

I currently have another BdR cue in the works, and had requested brass rings as opposed to silver....and seeing the brass rings in your cue, I see I made the right decision...adds a warmth to the overall design. Very nice, indeed.

I like the wood because it has a great chatoyant character to it...really quite beautiful.

While, sadly, I had to part with this cue, here was my first experience with BdR...custom designed Skip Weston:

I wish I had taken these pics, but hats off to the Scot Sherbine at Proficient Billiards. These are pics from his site, but it is my JW.

Bill Stroud told me the cue was made with Madacasgar Rosewood in the late 70s.

Enjoy,

Thank you so much for sharing your lovely cue!! That's a special piece, I'm sure!

I think that the BdR is as close to a suitable replacement for Brazilian rosewood as we're gonna get...and may well go the way of Brazilian before too long...but that's JMHO.:)

you may wanna contact Ed Young.. he does good work with that wood ...

good luck ...

Thanks for the heads up....but I currently have a BdR cue in the works. I just like seeing what else is out there, as you do not see the wood used that often, and it is so beautiful, that I often wonder why. I have heard that there are some cuemakers who will not use it, because it bleeds like a stuck pig when working with it, and can stain lighter colored woods if the maker is not diligent.

I will certainly put Ed on my list for future possibles.:D
