I want to dye some wood

I have made a few cues with color stich rings. They looked really good but as metioned in another thread you can see the grain, and does not finish out even. I want to give dying a go but I am unsure how to go about it. I have looked over the internet and have found some dyes that look like they may work but I was hoping to get so help from someone who has been there. To be clear I dont want to dye the veneer I want to dye the rings that borders the stich ring. Im sure everybody knows what I am talking about but to be clear they are the southwest style ring. I am looking to dye maple.

Analine dyes are the way to go...are you wanting to do this on an already assembled cue???
 
Not changing existing cues

I am not looking to change anything I have made thus far. I just want to start fresh and not have the same problems.
