Idea for a room to generate business...

I think a good way to generate business indirectly would be to hire an instructor to hold a "Seminar" if you will on pool. He/she would basically give lessons for a few hours to whoever wants to recieve absolutely free of charge. These people would normally not be able to afford lessons but can have the opportunity to learn some good things in this time span. I know it's not as good as a one on one session but I think it would work.

The instructor would be paid by the room owner up front and be responsible for the advertisement. Just simple flyers and such...maybe even a few radio ads. This will help bring in non-regulars and even new players that would like to play pool well but never really thought about it.

Bottom line is that if the more people know about the game...the more they will want to play it. Most average joes think pool is just hitting the balls and making them in the pockets...but don't know anything about the finer points of the game.

I don't think it would be hard to find an instructor willing to do this either as their business would/could swell as well. They could sell thier DVD's or leave thier cards for future business/lessons. Hopefully after all is said and done the room owner experiences an increase in patrons. Tournaments would be selling out and league night could be busy busy busy. Seems to me that everyone would benefit from this.

I've actually attended something like this before and it really did work. People were pumped up and this guy was selling his instructional videos like hot cakes. Everyone thought they were the next hustler. It kept the room quite busy for the duration of time that I lived in the area.

I'm a little surprised I don't see more of this.....but then again....I don't own a room. I have however, run my own furniture store and I know small business is tough.....especially now. So if I'm ignorant to the fact please enlighten me...I won't be offended. Thank you.

Anyone in here tried this before??
