If the shot was 100 yards away.....

the object ball is a complete football field away from you, and the pocket is 20 yards from the object ball,,,,

Would you look at the cue ball when shooting, or the object ball ????

My first thought is that I'd like for the CB and OB to be relative in size with the larger sized surface.

Regardless, I'd look at the CB when shooting.
I would not shift up to the OB at all during my hit swing. My entire focus would on the CCB.
That would be about as close to a shot in the dark as one could ever have.

If you are throwing a baseball, do you look at the baseball while throwing or looking at where you are throwing?

Which way is the wind blowing?

I'm a low head player with a piston stroke, so if I could get both in my wide frame vision & the shot is downhill I'm looking at the OB (I trust my stroke) but if it is uphill & I have to hit it really hard I would probably look at the CB after I get the club, I mean stick, lined up as precisely as I can. But on a shot like that, if we are playing fouls, I'm aiming at the center of the OB just to increase my chances of hitting it. Oh, by the way, I'm hitting it with HIGH center, No english. No TOI. No draw. Etc,

Interesting how we each see it different, right ?

But here is my thought,, in the 40 years I've been playing.... I have never, yes, never,,, missed the cue ball !!!!!

lol

That's actually not a good analogy because the stick is what you are throwing (or at least using a throwing motion)at the cue ball.

It's like hitting a baseball, are you looking where you are trying to hit it?
It's likehitting a tennis ball, are you focused on the other side of the court?

Mr. Stan,

He did not say it was at night & dark. I'm confident I could hit it as long as it is not the 6 ball on green grass.

Interesting that you bring up these two as I have done both rather well. I was even offered a job teaching tennis when I was 20 yrs. old.

MY answer is yes to both of your questions. I have never actually seen the bat or the tennis racket hit the ball. There comes a time in the process where the 'calculations' have been made as to where the ball will be & the focus can then be turned to where you are going to send the ball. If you only look at the tennis ball you will be hitting a lot of balls all over the place & hardly ever where you want to hit it.

With the cue ball stationary, I and my subconscious 'know' where it is & once I'm set up on it, even when hitting with english or TOI I am confident that I can & will hit it where I want to hit it. So... my focus turns to where I want to send it. Now if I'm in an awkward set up or bridge situation then I would look at the Cue Ball.

I know this is opposite of what CJ says but he is using different portions of the cue ball to hit only two points on the OB.

Wait, I think you forgot about that time when you were practicing & Miss Texas walked by in that string bikini & high heels.

wow,, interesting how we can be so different !

The last visual aspect of that shot that can be precisely controlled is CCB.
There is no way I'd shift up to the OB during my last stroke for that shot.

Interesting how we see it so different, isn't it. ( But in any case, i would quit playing before i gave up Pro1! ). I wonder what the percentage is of players that do it CB centric, versus OB centric ?

It's like the saying goes, there's more than one way to skin a cat. I myself see where the ball is going in my mind but my actual sight is on the ball.

Snooker - 100% OB

Crazy-americans-with-their-crazy-mongrel-pool-strokes - ?%

Nail your fundamentals and the CB barely exists.

Some look at the object ball last to deepen concentration. I like this also, but if I'm playing poorly, I go back to watching the cue ball to better assess if I'm hitting the cue ball where I've aimed.
