IF you had to choose

OK, if you had to choose 1 cue to use to play with, what would it be and why?

I guess i am just curious on everyones opinion, cuz i know everyone has eye'd a cue they wish they could get or afford to get. Either because of the design of the cue, or the way it feels and plays.

Now you cant go and say, you want something like a Original Balabuska, cuz i am sure most guys would kill to have one of those in thier case.

Well i have been using a Schon LTD since feb 2000, and well, i have seen many nice cues and expensive ones, but, i would totally stick with this cue.

Why? i love the way it feels, when playing with it, it hits like butter, and it has a very unique design on the stick.

Now i think if i honestly had a chance to have a cue made for me, i would go right to Schon and have them make me a Custom cue.

If I could choose anything. I'd take one-two cues from all the praised cuemakers: Southwest, Joss West, G. & B. Szamboti, Mottey, Black, Scruggs, Tad etc. and tried those cues for some time and pick the one which has the hit I like the most. The design is secondary, I like it plain and simple. My current cue Bear has enough inlays and I wouldn't want more on my dream cue. Though, I've seen a couple of complicated designs that please my eye. Tad has always had nice designs IMO...

Pic of my current cue attached... Birdeye maple forearm with ebony points. Ivory diamonds.

I'm playing with an Alpha cue. They're made by a friend of mine and every cue I carry is made by him. I have been completely satisfied with the way they play and I'm not one to change something that's not broke. I don't worry much about looks but he is going to build me a new custom cue worth several thousand dollars. If I had to pick anther cue based on play, I like the old Kershonbrocks. {not sure of the spelling} Sam

i would sit down, or talk over the phone with the master, richard chudy. i would go over, how i love the contrasts of the materials he uses. i would tell him, i love light, 17oz. cues, and how i would want it balanced. i would tell him, i'd love in the butt sleeve, lapis lozouli where blue meets gray in color. i'd have him make me rectangular windows in my butt sleeve. from there he could design a simple yet elegant matching forearm design. and then i'd feel i would have the nicest and greatest cue on earth. i would get my point across, that the balance is my most uptmost concern, and i want a light cue, with just a touch of meat.

my Nova Cue by Nubs Wagner.
best playing cue i have ever shot with, custom or production. hope i get it back from Ted Harris this week, he was going to lighten it up just a little and change the wrap.

give me a quarter and let one side be a dayton and the other side be a zylr and let me flip and i will take what fate hands me as i feel both cues are superbly made and the plat phenominally to boot........juston coleman

I would have to say Zylr, at least at the present point in my endless search for the perfect cue. I did FINALLY get to hit a southwest the other day though, and it did feel reeeeeealy NICE, to say the least. I'm sitting here trying to find some words to describe how the zylr plays, and I can't. Isn't it funny that we really have no accurate way (like some kind of graph or chart or something) to analyze and convey to others how a pool cue plays? Yeah you can say it hits stiff or 'a ton' or 'like a brick' or even that it has low deflection, good balance, and a nice feel with good feedback. But all of these things are taken differently by different people. Wierd. Oh well, just a rambling thought on my lunch break.
