Ok, I'm a pretty decent amateur somewhere in the low B range. I suck at chalking the cue. I know it sounds rediculous but its been pissing me off. I could wash my hands and after half an hour of playing they are blood red again!! (burgundy chalk for burgundy cloth) Could someone please describe this 'snooker' chalking method? I am also ruining my shafts cause i don't wanna go wash my hands in the middle of every match. People might look at it like a sharking technique! I NEED HELP!!

Stand your cue on the floor at an angle.
Hold the chalk with your index finger and thumb only.
Chalk the edges of the tip while turning the cue.
The chalk residue won't fall in your palm because your palm is above the chalk.
Stop spinning the chalk on the tip.

exactly what Joseph Cues said.....chalk like a snooker player...
you can just tilt your cue a bit and scrap the chalk on it too.

i dont spin the chalk. i usually brush it across the top a few times. i think my problem is that i grab the top of the cue with the same hand im chalking with... ill try leaving my hand higher than the chalk.

fxskater- to help keep your shaft clean try the Q-Products. Q-Clean, Q-Smooth are great to use once you arrive home after a night of pool. I use the Q-Clean once a week and the Q-Smooth a couple of times each week. I'm sure you've heard of it, if not... www.zimsrack.com look at "Cue Maintanance"! I hold the cue at an angle in my right hand, the chalk in my left hand and brush it across the tip and around the sides of the tip.

color me blue

I have seen some very poor quality chalk before that tend to really get all over everything. Perticularly with some of the more exotic colors. I have used bad batches of some usually good brands of chalk. I looked like I had been using a chalk line, and so did everyone else that used it. It seems more like powder. Am I alone to think I can tell a difference in the colors of chalk by the way they play and apply to the tip? When I played a lot of snooker I used green because it was there and I became used to it. But when I started playing more pool and hitting the larger balls I found that I greatly reduced my miss cues by changing to blue.

PS Always place the chalk facing up. It keeps your rails clean which keeps your clothes clean, Unless you lay on the chalk. LOL
