I'm Impressed...

Just finished searching the pages of http://www.galynx.com/jolney/index.htm Olney Custom Cues. I am pretty pressed with the photos, details, shop layout and organization, good size inventory in his shop also. I like the idea that he has many, many forearms, handles, butt sleeves and shafts ready to be put together for a customer as ordered. This is what I would like to start doing with my inventory...start building forearms, handles, butt sleeves and shafts, then put them together and finish them.
Has anyone played or owned one of his cues?

I had the pleasure of meeting up with Sherwin Cheng from the forum a few weeks ago and he was kind enough to bring a couple of his personal Olney cues with him. Just looking at the construction and overall finish of the cue, definitely could tell a lot of time and careful effort was placed in the construction of each cue. I know Sherwin was definitely happy with them, hopefully he can share his thoughts on this post.

they do look good

you aren't kidding Zim! those cues look great. It would be nice to find someone who owns one to really get a good look at them. the prices seem reasonable too.

Jeff Olney lives north of me a little ways, and I've met him and held one or two of his cues, but never played with one. Top of the line?...I don't know, but I've got a friend that collects cues and he probably has one (or had one). If you want, I could get you my collector-friend's number for you.

Jeff is dependable, I'm told, and plays one hell of a game. He's seems like a nice guy and I'll bet would honestly share any info you're seeking.

If I remember right, he's put up some cues for raffles at the VNEA and BCA state tournaments. If you're in Waterloo, Iowa in March/April, maybe you can get one for a buck or two. :)

If you do a search on Jeff, try also spelling his name as "Onley," as it is oftened mispelled (e.g., the Masters list for the VNEA even spelled it wrong!)

Olney Cues

Jeff makes some great cues. He is able to truly custom build a cue according to spec. 12.85mm ferrules, not a problem. 1.230 butt diameter not a problem either. Ditto on 19.25oz weighting. Jeff's build quality and the playability of his cues are top notch. I'll post some more pics of some recent cues I've received from Jeff shortly.

Also, you can contact Shawn Cochran who has some Olney cues available for immediate sale.

Otherwise, give Jeff a call and I'm sure he'll be able to custom build a cue to spec. No one I've ever spoken to has been disappointed with their Olney cue. And the pricing is VERY reasonable for the quality. I guess the real test though is the "hit" and of course that's subjective, but I'm very impressed. Just be a little patient and understand that Jeff has a pretty decent wait time on fancier, custom builds.
