Hey AZ'ers -
The publication I write for is holding a contest (substantial cash prizes) for articles we write on heroes in any and all classifications.
I am looking for any ideas or people who know of someone worthy of being recognized for their contributions in the sport, with fellow players, with charities, etc... someone who has and is making a difference in billiards.
The winner(s) of the contest will be the actual person recognized, and the awards can range into the 10's of thousands of dollars, so this is not about helping me win a contest per se, but about helping someone in our community not only be recognized, but also awarded.
About the contest:
This is a great opportunity for you to recognize someone in your community who is making a difference. Readers will ultimately vote for the winners, and the Examiner who writes the grand prize article will win a cool $10,000 while the person they profile will receive $40,000.
Leadership:
• A gamer or game designer who has organized a tournament, a charity or an NPO that aims to elevate his/her community.
• An influential leader who organizes motorcycle rides/car shows in your area for a charity or cause. Has anyone led any driver’s education programs or played a crucial role in campaigns related to drunk driving, texting while driving, etc.?
• A tech pioneer or someone who has started a technology company that has benefited your community. Has anyone in your area built and launched apps that have added incredible value to your community?
Overcoming Adversity:
• An artist or craftsman who has achieved great success in spite of a serious disability or personal hardship. Profile and interview someone who has overcome the loss of something tremendous with help from his or her creative hobby/talent.
• Someone who has overcome a personal hardship or disability thanks to technological advancements or special gadgets. Has someone responded to their disability through technological innovation by inventing a new media outlet, working on gadgets and gear, etc.?
• Someone who has overcome significant odds in order to experience their love of travel. Has traveling allowed someone to overcome personal hardship or change their life as a result? Has someone in your area overcome a travel-related accident or tragedy? How did they do it?
Sacrifice:
• An outstanding individual who has had to give up their creative pastime in order to help their community. Has someone sacrificed time/money to ensure people in your community are able to enjoy creative hobbies?
• Someone in your community who has volunteered their time to educating people locally about computers and devices. Has someone sacrificed time and money to ensure that children or students are equipped with computers, phones, etc.?
• Someone who has given up their personal resources in order help people in their community see more of the world. Has someone in your area sacrificed time with their family/friends to take on a job that involves travel?

• Someone in your area who has used their passion for gaming to add value to your community. Has an amateur designer developed a one-of-a-kind game experience and rocketed the industry to stardom as a result?

Thanks all, and I would love for someone here, or in billiards to win this!
