I just got a very nice offer from a fellow out of africa on some exotic woods.. Hoping someone has dealt in overseas trading of wood, or items of equivalency. Looking for any insight.
First off, the timber is $XXX/CBM .. Now how do they physically measure something like this to get the cbm.. From my understanding a cbm is the equivalent of 423bdf. Now, secondly .. these are in log form, and thus there is going to be waste.. Ive heard a 1/3 rule is a safe bet, but that was in reference to dried, sawn woods.. What kind of loss margin would be a bit over safe..
and the timber is delivered C&F PORT IN UNITED STATES. This means they pay the freight to the US, but I carry all liabilities?
What kind of pitfalls might happen en route to the US?
Now that the timber is in port, I need to get it loaded, and transported to my sawyer, and kilns, 80 miles from port..
Any suggestions on a carrier?
Lastly, The majority of the timber would be gabon.. Has anyone cut this green before?
Any issues?
