CueSports International and its referee community were extremely saddened by the recent passing of BCAPL National Head Referee Bruce Baker. On behalf of our player membership, league operators and the entire referee staff, all of us here at CSI wish to extend our thoughts and prayers to Bruce's family and friends at this most difficult time.

Starting in 1995, Bruce worked for the Billiard Congress of America as the Assistant League Director untl his retirement ad was also appointed the first Director of Referees. He played a monumental part in the creation and organization of the referee program. Bruce also continued to play a large role in the BCA Pool League Referee Program during the transition of the league system from the BCA to the BCA Pool League.

Unfortunately, due to health issues, during the last couple of years Bruce has not been able to take an active part in the Referee Program, but his suggestions and advice have been invaluable.

We will miss him dearly, as will many others.

Rest In Peace Bruce

Godspeed Bruce

I am deeply saddened by this news. Bruce was selected to replace me when I resigned from the BCA back in 1996. I have a mountain of respect for him. We would talk on the phone from time to time and discuss the state of league pool and the BCA. His contributions to the pool community is immeasurable. I know he will be missed, but he'll be working hard in Heaven to make the Good Call. Godspeed My Friend.

Thanks Carl for the kind words about Bruce. I tried to call you yesterday to verify the date that Bruce worked for the BCA but the number we had for you was an old number.

Thanks again

Bill, I am sorry you couldn't reach me yesterday. I would say the dates aren't that important. Bruce came to the BCA at a time when he had already created a significant development with the Certified Referee Program which I believe was in 1995. This responsibility, along with the rapid growth of the Pool League, Trade Show, and Tournaments had Bruce wearing at least 3-4 hats everyday.

I admired the way he maintained his professional attitude toward the development of amateur pool. He had convictions also and you couldn't easily dissuade him in an argument! I am really grateful that it was Bruce Baker that continued the dedication and hard work of being an Assistant League and Program Director for the players of the BCA Pool Leagues.

It is my hope that BCAPL and CueSports International commit to dedicating an award worthy of his contributions.

Thank You Bill,

Carl Semmes
