In need of software!!

Hi guys,
With all the rooms closing, I have some good news - I'm in the process of opening a new pool room in South Jersey. I need your help in buying software that can:
  • Calculate table time (must)
  • Control the lights over the tables (must)
  • Inventory control for merchandise (i.e. cues, cases, accessories, etc.)
  • Calculate employee time (punch-in and out)
  • POS capabilities? -as a cash register for misc. items like snacks
  • Any management reporting (daily, mthly, annual sales, etc.) would be helpful
  • anything else I'm missing?

I will be using Quickbooks to manage financials and other reports. Any info would be greatly appreciated, pros-cons, contacts to reps or the company directly would be helpful. Thanks in advance for your help!! I look forward to sharing with you my successes and failures along the way.
 
If you want to control lighting through a computer, you're going to need more than just software. Does your location already have the other hardware and software drivers you would need?

From the POV of the POS software developer, there are probably a lot of companies that sell touchscreen/computer controlled lighting systems. Making the POS software function with all those different vendors would be a challenge probably not worth tackling especially since most of their customers would have one lighting policy: on during business hours, off otherwise.

Software controlled systems have the potential to create interesting new problems. I believe it was in New Zealand where a "Best Buy"-type store had a computer automatically unlock the doors and turn on the lights at the right time. However, the software failed to take into account a holiday so the store opened even though there were no employees around!

Is seems that everything else in your list should be straight-forward but that lighting requirement... do other pool rooms do that?

Check out Pool House Manager by Time Magic. It'll do everything you are listing here and much more.

We use it and it is a fabulous POS system. Price with the super tab and the touch pad (Both of which we could not live without) is less than a grand. The most user friendly and customizable POS systems we have ever used. While we do not use the feature, it will allow you to control all your table lights and such.

Most importantly, support is really top notch!
