Upon receiving my new Pocket Chalker by Ken yesterday, I gave it a thorough inspection.
It is made well. The inside of the chalk pocket has a woven inner cage that the chalk will rest against, and not against the Python leather. This cage is for the 4 sides of the pocket, but the bottom is open, although chalk does not actually press against the bottom.
I got the Green Python leather chalk cage with black piping. The stick portion is Green Spalted Maple, measuring 3'4" x 4 1/2", very solid. Although I felt the stick portion was a little bigger than normal, I did not have a problem with it bothering me in my pocket while bent over in position. Perhaps a slight decrease to 1/2" x 4" would be okay as well.
The cord is a woven nylon/polypro type cord that is very strong. It goes through a bottom cross corner of the pocket and cage. It is joined together with a metal band that is soldered shut. The ends are trimmed short and burned for no raveling The hole through the stick is a 1/4" dpwm from the end.
I am pleased with it initially, and I do not foresee it stretching out of shape since it has the inner woven cage for the support. The Green Python is really pretty, especially when the light hits it. The Green Spalted Maple has shades of green, and a little brown, that complement the Python.
I know you can buy a Pocket Chalker for $7-8 bucks, but almost any custom made one will run you about $20 or more. I paid $18.95 for this one, and when I inquired whether it had shipped or not, Ken said he had to make another of this model, and was trying to get ready for a big tournament, and he took it upon hisself to ship priority mail 2-3 days delivery although I only had chosen the normal 5-7 day delivery, so he ate about $3.50 in shipping cost for me, and I thought that was pretty nice of him.
I am looking forward to using it for a long time, and it fits in my small case pocket okay. If you want something a little exotic, Here is his website:
