Maybe it is just me but for some reason I feel that at times I avoid using inside english on thin cut.
Is there any reason for this as a general rule?
Is it the fear of missing the object ball completely?
Any recommendations besides just practice and shooting that shot over and over.

I hate it when I misspell on the subject line :bash:

Establish the pivot point for your cue and start using BHE on the thin cuts

You should see a pretty good jump in success and by using a system your confidence should improve removing your fear and subconscious avoidance....

THEN practice the shots over and over......

inside english

Do you frequently use outside english on cut shots, even when it is not required? If so, it may be that you have subconscious, programming issues.

If you train your brain to do one thing consistently, the subconscious programming can be in conflict when you try to perform a contrary task.

I really only use english as much or as little as it requires. I try to go no more and no less. It all depends, on what is needed.
From my experience/training I feel much better at using outside than inside spin.
Don’t get me wrong I still play inside english, but again I am not as comfortable with it.

Let’s say I had a shot where I had to hit the CB with 2 tips of outside spin or I could the same shoot it with 2 tips of inside spin.
I that case I would use the outside as long as I could get to my next position.

It really just comes down to pocketing power.
There are no shortcuts in this game.
It looks like it is my own experience and my mental blocks associated with my experience that is holding me back.
I just need to work on it.

I guess I was looking to see if there was a scientific reasoning behind my concern.

Thanks for the thoughts on this.

Inside never bothered me like it does some people, I'm an equal opportunity english abuser... :)

I used to prefer certain types of english on certain shots, just the way I learned. I would always hit those shots that way unless absolutely necessary to do something different for position. I liked outside on thick - medium cuts, and inside on balls near the rail.

Now I basically try to shoot all shots with center or very close to it in order to eliminate variables like squirt, curver, etc. and maximize my consistency. But I will certainly tweak shots with 1/4 to 1/2 tip as necessary, along with draw/follow or speed, to alter the cueball path to achieve proper routes and position. And since I learned with so much english, I'm not opposed to using more when needed, but that's the key word - when needed.

Like Renfro said, you just need to practice until you are comfortable. It does help to come up with some systematic adjustments for the english, can give you a lot of confidence. Or you do it the old fashioned way and just learn the adjustments for various spin amounts, distances, and speed through practice and repetition. But if you need inside english for position a thin cut, or any other shot, nothing should stop you from being able to execute that properly.

Thats an easy fix.
just use the side of your shaft to aim at the contact point on the Ob ball and aim at the OB not the cue ball. You shoot thru the cue ball not at it.
