Installing a table light in the garage

It's just a hobby, but a fun one.

Has anyone with a garage and a garage door opener had problems installing a light for their table with it in the way? Specifically a diamond light??? the opener hangs damn near center of the garage! I think the only option is to take down the garage door opener. Any suggestions would be helpful.

This may be of no help to you, since I didn't use a Diamond light, but I did have the problem you have, and I thought I'd tell you what I did, and how it worked for me.

I put my 9 ft table with the long rail perpendicular to the garage door, and closer to one side wall than to the other, so that the center of the table, lengthwise, was midway between the garage door opener, and the track on that side.

I put a light up near the ceiling, so it didn't hang down low enough to interfere with the garage door when it opened and closed, which I needed to be able to do.

To make sure I had plenty of light with the fixture this far from the table, I used eight 4 foot bulbs. It has worked very well for me, and the compromises I had to make were minimal.

I posted a few pictures of my garage conversion Here:

The photos didn't focus on the light, but you can see how well it lights up the table and how it's centered between the track and the opener.

When i first got my table the light hung right under the garage door opener. I just screwed some hooks into the studs on both sides of the light and ran cables through them and through the back of the light. Then you can just adjust the height by pulling or loosening he wires. It was only temporary till the door came out. and it look horrible but it worked. And the garage door still opened and closed fine. Ill post pic if i can find some.

Once the table is inside I dont ever plan on opening the garage door again. I even plan on buying some silcone to seal up the cracks in the door. The house isnt mine so I am iffy about taking the opener down. I was thinking of suspeneding the light by cables under the opener.

Thanks for the Ideas guys and thats a nice pool room. I plan on making mine more for practice and recording than luxury. I am going to put up a marker board on the wall and a nice tv to watch practice videos with. A table to hold my laptop for recording and a camera mount on the ceiling. I am all about business on this one!

I put a Diamond light in my garage also.

I removed the garage door opener.

Easy to do and easy to reinstall the opener down the road.
