Most interesting tournament venue I experienced was the '65 US Open. Now I could be off a year either way on when it was held, but not about the layout of the venue itself. The room was in LA and owned by one of the Laker players. I remember George Balabushka hawking his wares outta that travelling showcase up on the concourse. But the most interesting thing about that room was the layout. The playing area was set up as a large sunken pit. Spectator areas were elevated above the playing floor. The feature table had a mirror suspended over it that was hung at such an angle that patrons sitting at the elevated bar could look through the open back wall of the bar area and have an eye level birds eye view of the table. The room seemed to have been set up specifically for spectators to view such an event...true stadium pool.
Gotta wonder if such a place would fly today at some casino to host national championships and everyday feature games...our masters venue. Could such a layout become our goto place?
