The International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) has today announced that the United States Snooker Association has had its bid accepted to stage the inaugural IBSF World Team Snooker Cup in the United States.

The event is due to be staged in San Jose, California, in the summer of 2006.

More details on the event will be made public after the next IBSF board meeting in Germany next month.

Sweet. Are the teams divided by country? If so does the UK field seperate English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish teams, or just one UK super-team?

Hi there Aunty Dan,

All the constituent nations of the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland) are member nations of the International Billiards & Snooker Federation (IBSF) in their own right, so they will each be sending a national team to compete.

The IBSF has almost seventy member nations, but we are at this time drawing up plans for a 48-team IBSF World Team Snooker Cup, of which we hope there will be at least two teams representing the United States - a USA "A team" made up of the best players in the country, and selected other teams to create more interest. If it looks however as if there will be more than 48 entries we will have to review the situation.

Regards.

Alan.
