IPT Cloth - Mali
The rumor is that it was Mike Sigel who influenced KT to go with Mali cloth for IPT events. Let me first say that I don't find any problem with this for tournament play. I've lamented in the past that I'm not the biggest fan of Simonis and other worsted cloth. Because they play so good, I think that a lot of players can get away with less stroke.
That being said, brand new Mali cloth is about as fast as Simonis 860, so I don't see this as being any different, as far as stroke is concerned. What will be a concern is the pilliness of new cloth, the inherent wobbling, and the rise in humidity. I've found that Mali cloth turns ugly much more quickly with adverse conditions compared to Simonis 860.
Anyway, I think that if KT heard some other voices, he'll rethink future events and go with a non-pilly cloth like a Granito or Simonis.
BTW, I've heard from a very good source that Kevin can actually play the game, and that he would never be confused for a non-player.m He knows the game, and looks like he loves the game. That bodes well for us all.
