Irish linen colors on refinish

hi.
this is just to get opinions , not really for help.
i am refinishing a Huebler and the linen was purple / white , i have blue that actually matches the blueish in the veneer and the rings but it is not like the original. it is for my personal collection . what would you do ?
order purple or use the blue , would it really make a difference in the value ?

What does the customer want? Wraps are perishable and are meant to be replaced. Talk with your customer and see what works best for both of you.
 
If I'm reading the OP correctly, he wants to do this on his own cue, not for a customer
as he states: "it is for my personal collection".
If that is the case then this is real easy.
It's your cue, do what you want regarding color choice.
As Ryan stated, wraps are meant to be changed. They don't last forever.
No where is it written that you have to continually replace the wrap with the
same color that it came with. This is a golden opportunity to change the visual character
of the cue.
The wrap area makes-up approx. 40% of the handles surface area.
Changing the color of the wrap can have a huge effect on how the cue is viewed.
It's an opportunity for creativity and expression.
Given the myriad of color choices available today, you're only limited by your own imagination.
And that's just linen. You've also got the option(s) of leather or cork.
Be creative, use your imagination, define yourself.

Will this affect the cue's value??? That depends. A bad wrap job can certainly detract from the
cue's value but conversely, a well thought-out color scheme with good execution in the wrap's application can easily enhance a cue's value.
 
well if i had the purple i would probably use it, i just happen to have 2 spools of blue/white and a red/white , just ordering 1 spool will cost a minimum charge @ atlas ( just ordered supplies 2 weeks ago so i dont need anything else). so guess i will just go with blue.
 
Unless specified I have my wife pick every wrap color, replacement or new, linnen or leather. A brown shirt with brown pants is not always your best choice.

Enough said.

But that's just the point; different strokes.
 
Go for the new color. You said yourself that it would look better. Hueblers may play well, but they aren't exactly at the top of most collector's lists. (I love Schulers, but they are just as uncollectible) Dress it up and don't look back.
 
Sorry that I missed the point that it is your cue. I like KJ's response. I'd like to say that the wrap color doesn't really matter, from a value standpoint, unless you pick a color combo that doesn't flow with the overall design of the cue. Post some picks and we can all give our opinions. :p
