Is there anyone that can authenticate a Joss West these days?

I think he is trying to persuade people into thinking something, without stating it, to avoid any possible return for it not being what he is implying. There are a few different makers who could have made cues with that ringwork.

Dave Kikel could probably verify it for you since he’s the one Bill Stroud sent you to if your JW needed work. Heck he was the only guy authorized to cut new trademarks if the work needed it. That is if you can get him to look at it since he’s all but retired now .

At a glance looks like a Tad, most likely not though
Though not every, most Tads had a longer butt plate than the standard 1.5 inches as this appears to be. Also most Tads had a difference box joint collar pattern. Bill, of Josswest did a dash style pattern in the joint collars, but these appear too centered to be one of Bill's. He did the dashes closer to the outside of the collars.

could be one of billy's old ones . he made some cheap similar cues too. but even if it is one of his it isnt worth much more than that anyway as is.

it is a cheap custom playing cue. buy it or not and use it if you do for a playing cue.

those birds eye maple ones usually hit well with nice wood.

Seen a TON of JW's since Bill made a bunch here in Tulsa. Looks a lot like the basic birdseye mw model but it should have the JW on the buttcap. also agree with other reply about joint rings, those dashes don't look like Joss to me. Nice cue regardless.

A lot of his 74-78Tulsa cues had dashes like you describe. He also did squares in the collars that were more centered. not sure which yrs he did which. one with centered squares: https://forums.azbilliards.com/threads/f-s-1970s-joss-west-sideways-w-by-bill-stroud.283988/

Wait, so Dave Kikel was authorized to re-do the JW logo if necessary? Like if the buttcap needed replacement or something?

Does anyone remember Bill making many cues with a 5/16x18 pin? This cue wasn’t a custom made cue or so I’m supposing. It was posted Bill made cues like this in his early days at Joss but I’ve never seen one before so I have to ask if anyone has photos of those cues he made using this different pin. I’m imagining there wouldn’t have been many.

in the beginning he often used whatever he had around for his low end stuff. still made it well.
and many had palmer shafts and wanted to interchange so that could have been why it was an 18 as well.
and many or most or any of his early cues did not have any names on them.

Now that both Bill Stroud and Dan Janes are gone, is there anyone left that could authenticate/write a COA for a Joss West?

Inspiration behind my question is this eBay post here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1460528787...d=link&campid=5335988529&toolid=20001&mkevt=1

Looks like a Joss West and the seller's description implies it is. I'm not going to roll the dice on it, but it did get me thinking about how to confirm who made it.

That's a Joss Diamond series cue, not a Joss West

Made by Joss East in the early 1980s.

I think Nick Varner used to sell them.
