Indicator mounted to headstock

Not a bad idea if you like it. I had mine like that until recently. I put up with it being a bit in the way for the convenience of it. I needed it for checking something away from headstock recently and put it back on the base. Once it was off, I realized it is more versatile and less in the way. It still mounts on the headstock when I need it to.

I have a similar setup as in Chucks pictures. It does get in the way at times but can't imagine being without it. I am switching over to the longer arms and lever style indicator as in Divers post and will be installing a foot or two of metal strip to my table so that I can move it around and not be connected to the headstock.
I also have a pack of brass shim stock from .001 to about .15 and in .0005 variance in the thinner stuff. Works great to help true up stuff. I see diver is using that new attachment to help true up stuff. I'll wait to see how his works before I try one.
I'm really jealous of those of you with machinist lathes that can true out runout just by adjusting the chuck.

I was wondering about the stem diameter of the holder. This one is 10/32 or about 5mm . Nuts are allready built in headstock. Years ago the base was at least 1/4x20 for the stem. On another note my cheap qc tool post would move when I tightened it. When I put a thrust washer on top it stopped moving and stayed tight (in case anyone has same problem)
