someone told me once that they watched a guy by the name of "Purdue Paul" break and run 21 straight racks of 9 ball.

i find that difficult if not impossible to believe.

do you guys think its possible?
the individual that told me this seems to be an ok guy most of the time.

I don't know if it's true but it's certainly possible. If Earl can run 11 and Johnny could run 13 then 21 is just 8 more racks. The type of equipment probably has a lot to do with it too. Who knows, the table could have had 3" pockets?

11 Racks in Practice.

I entered a tournament a few years back, in Cincinnati. I had just asked two players if I could join them at the table to practice. The player that was racking said sure, but "the guy breaking has just run the last 5 racks". After I watched him run the next rack, I racked and watched him run another, then another and after 11 straight racks, he said "I guess I'm warmed up" you two can have the table. The table was a 9 foot tight Diamond with Simonis.

This guy went to the finals of the winners bracket and ended up 3rd to Gary Speath and Joe Brown. The only reason he didn't beat them, was bad rolls on the breaks. His name was Dallas Smith a local.

14 Racks Of Nine Ball

At Cochran's Pool Hall In San Francisco California In The Early 60's ( I Believe It Was 1962 ), " Portland Don " Watson Ran 7 Racks On A Four And A Half By Nine Playing Bucktooth Cook. The Tooth Said "i Can't Fade Any More Of That!!! Let's Go Over To That Five By Ten And Play. "portland Don" Proceeded To Run 7 More In A Row And The Tooth Quit Him And Said " From This Day Forward You Will Be Known As The Incredible Don Watson.

I believe Luther Lassiter is credited with running 21
racks also.

Bustamante too

Well as far as I know F. Bustamante run 11 racks on Johnny Archer. I personally watched him 8 in a row here in Germany.

I don't recall ever seeing Dallas when he wasn't "warmed up" :D

Tom,

I ran 3 racks of 9-ball on Michael's barboxes with bucket pockets. Does that count? :p .

I think your friend was talking about Peru Paul from Peru,In. He probably did run a 21, but it was more than likely on a Valley bar table and probably a while back. Paul's game has declined a little due to health. He's still a great player and subject to beat anyone. 10 years ago I would have staked him against any living human but they had to keep up with him drinking during the match. Sam
