ITP on TV will look like...

In your opinion what do you think we will be viewing as a final product on TV with the ITP?

Will it be, "The World Series of Poker" meets "Reality TV"?

-Interviews with hall of famers, top tournament pros, and the others (with colorful backgrounds.)
-Followed by edited short style games.
-Or cameras following players to practice tables as they try to pair up gambling.
-Short stories of the long shot player as they cover thier individual background and follow them around?

You got that right! I have posted about this before, and just how ill received the current TV format is. This is what I see happening, again Just my opinion, but people I told this to said they would watch if they saw more players, as many friends of mine now would never sit through 16 games of pool between 2 players. To be honest not many people want to sit down and watch just Sergio Garcia play 18 holes or John Daly or Tiger, they want to see who is winning (leaderboard) and see some awesome shots or holes, we all have different favorites.

I think the camera crew will follow the play of the entire round, not just follow a single table or match, you we see just as in golf the announcers saying ok back to table 3 as Keith McCready is on the hill, and you will see cut shots to different shots or games by all players involved just like golf when they jump from hole to hole and follow many players. But mostly you will see parts of all the matches until the last few rounds which then I guess you will see the whole match covered.

TV time is precious and not everyone wants to see say Earl, or Nick play, maybe they like Buddy Hall, or maybe they want to see Fisher so you could essentially see a great game or 2 between Hall and Fisher and then one with Hopkins and McCready, so you will end up seeing all the players in that round which is really cool and works real well for Golf.

I'm sure there are many things that will be tried at first and thats the best part, they never tried much of anything in the past, always same old same old.

I have heard PPV talked about so I think the final round will be PPV, wet your appetite on the TV with early rounds and then advertise the PPV for the live final. I sure hope the final is live otherwise it might be a very tough sell. Live PPV cost more to do, but if it's not live the outcome is known and it could be tough to sell, will have to see what happens, TV is going to be the best outlet to promote.

Again just my opinion, whatever happens it's going to be something never before attempted and certainly something to see, the Hall of Fame round will be a very cool!

Well, with several round robins going on I can see where there would be more interest generated for the fans. So and so playing now needs this win to remain alive. Or so and so with a win here can move ahead of and eliminate so and so.

Let me answer my own question-Mike Sigel is winning!

This round robin is for the birds as is slow nap cloth, no jump sticks, no shot clocks. It's as if they designed the whole thing to be as boring as possible.JMHO

I like the comparision to the golf coverage.

In my opinion they will tweek the rules of the formats to streamline the apppeal to the TV viewership. Hockey and NASCAR recently made changes. Baseball and Basketball did too in the past. There are many options that can be made but the bottom line is making the game of pool marketable for sponsorship. Then Pool must maintain and expand that sponsorship.

Case in point NASCAR. In my opinion boring (I call it roundy-round.) People watch it waiting for a wreck like Hockey fans wait for a fight! Watch the final 5 minutes of the race and you have seen all there is to see. They made changes to make every race count at the end of the season.

Even the World Poker Tour has shortcomings in that the events are redundantly repeated. They would benefit from a schedule like NASCAR that would put more play in the time frame of a season. Less down time of watching Chris Moneymaker win for the 12th time on air.

I digress...pool has potential that FOX would love to exploit. An innovation that can push them ahead in the viewership networks race. Will it be pay-per-view? The jury is still out. But I pray that this does not happen. Pay-per-view doesnt have the longevity. (Kinda like a movie made going straight to video.) Lets hope there is a marketing genius out there that has the vision to package this up as must see.

IPT must lay the ground work and show FOX there is a veiwership "hook." Let's just hope FOX agrees.

The rules that are in place will not nesseccarily remain in place. Pool needs to provide a "Hook" to capture a viewing audience. The network will suggest changes that are more viewer friendly.

Mike Sigel in some respects is that Hook (Captian Hook to some) in an ironic sort of way. Yes he is winning. Is the format and rules boring? Yes and no. They will not be focusing on the round robin participants as to how they are doing at the current time. The will focus on the person with the most intriguing set of circumstances and background for that moment in the tournament. Let the viewer live in that persons shoes for the moment.

The rules conducive to boring play? Hard one to answer. Shot clocks will not be needed because they will edit the dead time anyway. If everyone is complaining openly about the cloth or no jump sticks as a camera follows them around, the answer is no. This sends the message to the viewership that conditions are tougher than normal. We wont be watching the entire game. If you want that maybe they will offer a espn type of college game day package. Are we gonna be watching timecut/edited runouts? Yes. Will they cut to spectacular shot making and lockup safety play? Yes. Will they jump from action on one table to another? Yes.

The bottom line is they will try to show the human side of the game. The before and after effects of a match on a certain player. Firery types, emotional types, smack talking types, and the common man/woman types will get airtime.

If they have eight tournament tables I'd like to see a camera on each at least an overhead view. While watching a feature match you could get highlights of the other tables. Hope they don't try to cover multiple games at the same time like they did a few years ago where they would cut back (in the middle of a shot/game) and forth between a mens match too the ladies.
