My cue stick vibrates, how about yours?

I recently started increasing my time at the pool table and felt it was time to get a cue of my own:cool: I didn't have a lot of money to spend, but got a cue I felt was fitting of my caliber. Anyway, for the first week I used it, the cue played very nicely. I really enjoyed it. Well, two days ago, the tip pops off. I get it replaced and all of a sudden there is an incredible amount of vibration. By just flicking the tip with your finger, you could have yourself a new musical instrument. I am just looking for some insight as to what would cause such a change in the play of my cue:confused: Any feedback why and what to do is appreciated...

I don't know as much as some others on the board...but noone has gotten back either, eh?

Sounds to me like you GOTTA has the tip checked by the guy who did it (or someone who knows what they is be talking abizzout, coz the installer might've messed up the ferrule). As you say, it's the only change.

Past that, try to isolate the nizzoise, tap different parts of the cue, put together and taken apart coz there are many joined pieces to a cue.

Let us know what it was and the brand it is. Could be that your problem is common.

You might want to check the bumper , weight bolt if it has one. I had a cue that I made do that and it was the weight bolt that had loosened up and was vibrating, drove me crazy til I could get home and check it out. B

BTW-

b-jamm raises a good point: weight bolts do tend to loosen over time due to the shortcomings of thee being 2 parts there.

Put some teflon tape on the threads of every weight bolt- you'll like it!

Thanks for all of the insight, guys. By the way, the brand is Viper; the model is Sabre. I might have those switched around? It is a cheap cue ~$80. But it was on sale, and I have more important priorities. For the mean time, I'll enjoy playing music and pool at the same time :D
 
Just a possibility here. Is it cold where you are? If you took a cue into a pool room and started playing when it was cold, that could be the reason the tip came off. Cold temps can cause some glues to harden. If that is the case, it's possible the same thing happened if the ferrule was glued to the tenon. Might be that the ferrule needs to be re-set as well.
 
I'd say the tip isn't installed right. Most tips are put on with an "instant " glue these days. If the installer isn't real careful, the bond will not be true over the entire ferrule. The result is a new musical instrument - Buzza buzza buzz buzz buzz buzz buzz...

Cold is an understatement...

The cold weather hypothesis is a good one. I'll definitely look into that. I noticed that the cue vibrates the most when tapped ~4" from the tip to ~5" above the joint. You guys have been a great help.
