just something floating around., actually for a while now..........that alan hopkins is going to take over for CW. maybe just pool rumor, and i can't verify.

That could be plausible. Hopkins sure has the savvy to run tournaments. And if he could tie in with the Seminole Tribe and actually form a real Pro Men's Tour then the possibilities can be endless.

But that would probably be a legal nightmare and I doubt that the UPA would turn over the reins to Hopkins. it all depends on who the Men will back.

In my mind the big mistake that the UPA made is that they didn't/don't have a tour of their own. Instead they go as a gang to a legitamite tournament and muscle in. As a result it makes the UPA and the Pros who play for them look like a bunch of bullies.

Looking at the BD Index there are only about a dozen USA Pros who can draw fans to watch them play. And more important, to pay to watch them play. But, to me, it appears that the fan base just does not exist.

I expect that in 10 years BD will be talking about the old UPA just like they are now talking about the PBT. Pool is stuck in a quagmire.

Yes, quagmire, indeed, Jake. Who was responsible for the last men's quagmire, about 20 years ago? Do you remember? I do. I hope history doesn't repeat itself.

Even though CW is supposedly "stepping down," he will still be on the board of directors. A president of an organization such as the UPA would be better represented by a veteran who is not actively participating in tournaments, like a Mike Sigel (IMO). Maybe they should consider a fair election process, with more tha one competent candidate for the position.

Look at the charts in the Atlanta tournament currently going on and see the seeds and byes, and look at the pool players who have to start from the gutter and work their way up. I'd like to see Gabe Owens make it to the top, starting from the gutter. The UPA seeded players get a head start on the UPA Tour, like Big Apple and Capital City Classic, when the seeded players only play one round to get in the money.

Corey enjoyed getting a seed and a bye at Capital City Classic even though he had not signed his UPA contract at the commencement of the tournament, and the UPA bent the rules to let it happen because they would have liked Corey Deuel to sign the legally binding UPA contract prepared by UPA counsel, give up endorsements with Corey's likeness for UPA promotion, and simply just place a leash around Corey's neck.

Looks like the seeding finally backfired on Archer and Williams - they both got beat. Now one of them will have to knock the other out of the tournament. I don't see anyone else on the loser side beating them. But then I didn't expect either of them to lose their first match.

They would have been better off if they faced each other in the first match. Then at least one of them would still be undefeated.

Well, Jake, it looks like the cream always rises to the top. Johnny Archer booked two back-to-back winners on the UPA Tour, and coming from the loser's bracket, he is to be congratulated for a hard-fought finish, especially in front of his home crowd. Must have been an exciting match in the finals!
