Ivory Ferrule

I have a question - is it necessary to make Ivory Ferrules threaded ?

Or can I put them on also only with a tenon ?

You can use a tenon, but make sure you solid cap the ferrule at least the front 3/16" and drill a small 1/16" glue relief hole.

I agree with Chris on the method. About the ferrule, if you use a caped sleve type as Chris is talking about, it's not as strong as a threaded one. Here's why.
First there's not to much to glue too, with a sleved ferrule, just a caped cylindar, with straight side walls. With a threaded one, it will allow you to tighten it properly, and it has more glueing surface, becase of the male and female threads........My choice, threaded for sure.
