What is the difference between Ivory and Mammoth Ivory? If I remember correctly, mammoth ivory seems to be more of an offwhite or yellowish color compared to regular ivory. Not sure, but that's it looked like to me when I saw it.

what's "mammoth",,,like woolly mammoth? isn't all that stuff petrified?!

Heck I don't know. I think that's what it is. All I know is that they specifically say mammoth ivory.

I have some 10,000 yr. old shaft wood to go with that mammoth ivory. Would make one helluva stick. :D

ivory

Mammoth Ivory will be a tan color most of the time. It is like stone it picks up color from it's surounding area that its in. Some say that it is light greenish color or blueish color when it comes from certain areas. I have never seen this. All I have ever seen is a dirty tan color. It is even worse to work with than ivory and it doesn't look that great. It doesn't hit like ivory when used for a ferrul either. It has been in the ground for thousands of years so it is full of moisure and it takes a long time to loose this moisture. Not the greatest for cue making. Hope this helps. Butterflycues
