So I received the new Jeanette Lee memoir in hard copy complimentary here from Mike of AZ Billiards- Thanks Again to Mike and AZ for the opportunity to read and now share this very good read! I enjoyed the book very much and I believe that future readers here will as well. I would like to state here what the book is about and also what it is not- as far as pool book readings are concerned.
The memoir is a very moving story of Jeanette's life, her beginnings in Brooklyn and Queens NY, growing up in a Korean American family background. The story delves into Jeanette's struggles to find happiness in challenging school and social environments; facing anti Asian prejudice, and then being diagnosed with Scoliosis and undergoing a multitude of surgeries and treatments starting in her early teens. It is a story of a lost and rebellious teen who, in her late teens, finds a haven and finally acceptance in the NYC male dominated pool scene beginning in the late 1980s.
The book chronicles Jeanette's meteoric rise to the top of the women's pro billiard world. We are made aware of the many, many obstacles and hurdles that Jeanette overcame throughout her entire pro career and how her own fierce determination, competitive spirit, and, with the help of a few key people throughout her career; Jeanette managed to stay a strong force in the competitive pool world for a long duration.
The memoir details Jeanette's greatest fight of her life- cancer- and how her love of family and God helps her during this brutal diagnosis and resulting treatment program.
In a word- the memoir is truly inspiring! Your heart goes out to Jeanette and her family for all that they have endured and you can have nothing but admiration and awe concerning Jeanette's strength and resilience in the face of so many very difficult obstacles in her life. Triumph- for sure!

As agreed, I will now mail this book ( USPS Media Mail- for books- my dime) to the next interested AZ reader. Please know in advance- this book does NOT detail pool gambling stories and it does NOT detail Jeanette's pro pool matches- it is NOT a pool wars type read for those who may be looking for that.

It is a true memoir of Jeanette's life, the details are not about pool but about who Jeanette is as a person and as a role model. Having stated this, I will mail out the book this week to the first PM that I receive from a truly interested person who provides me their name and complete mailing address - PM only please.

As soon as I have that person- I will post here the winner's AZ member name so that others know not to send any more PMs- The person who receives this book AGREES, as I am doing today, to read it and then offer it up here at your mailing expense to the next AZ reader -- LIMITING THIS TO THE LOWER 48 STATES FOR MAIL EXPENSE PURPOSES- THANKS! j lee book.JPG

Nice review and thank you for it. The book seems to be exactly what I would expect and want from a quality biography. Intense recounting of gambling stories should be left to folks like Jay.

I pre-ordered a signed copy way back in May, and it just arrived on Friday. Finished reading it this morning.

Mike's review is spot on. I've got dozens of pool memoirs, hustling tales, etc., and this book is in a different category altogether. I would add, however, that she does spend a fair amount of space acknowledging and honoring the memory of the late Gene Nagy, who took her under his wings, practice with her night and day until she keeled over from exhaustion, and got her to devote her focus on pool 100%.

All in all, definitely a book worth reading on many levels.

It's also available for sale at caromsports.com. I was told all proceeds go to her family.

This book is again available to be forwarded to one person.
Please use the same contact method as in the OP.

Thanks again to Mike and AZB.
