Jennifer Chen on ESPN

I just talked to Jennifer Chen. She is very excited about being on ESPN.

Jennifer just received a silver medal in the World Game last month and she is very thrilled about her victory against Ga Young Kim a couple hours ago in the WPBA Peoria tournment. This is the first time she beat Kim in a while, and Kim was playing very well.

Due to her numerous business obligations in Asia, Jennifer said she has not been practising as often as she would like. She is very happy she is making her TV appearance in the US again. It has been a while.

She said she hoped her US fans have not forgotten about her yet since her last TV appearance more than a year ago. She asked me to say hi to all the viewers on azbilliards.com.

Jennifer Chen also told me she has just switched to a new jump break cue called the X Breaker. It is the second tournament she is breaking with this cue. The first tournament was the World Game in which she knocked out Allison and silver medaled. She used to use a sledgehammer and she has also tried a Stinger in Vegas. This new jump break cue is really working for her. Her cue ball is always parked right in the middle of the table.

Bustamente was also breaking with the same X Breaker on TV during the WPC 2005. This jump break cue has not been officially introduced to the general public yet but a lot of professionals are already jumping or breaking with it.

I am so happy for Jennifer Chen. She is really in stroke and she is very confident. She seemd very happy about her new equipment and her game.

Julie and Helena will play at 11am and Jennifer will play the winner at 3pm. I will be looking forward to seeing her in the finals.

I just watched Jennifer Chen beat Ga-Young Kim. I was not rooting for either one particularly but Chen showed a enormous amount of heart and skill in overcoming a deficit and beating the World Champ. Congratulations to her.

Jennifer is a very talented player. I wish she can make it to the finals and win the tournament. If she wins, this would be her first major title in the US.

I used to be a big fan of Jennifer Chen until I witnessed how bad of an attitude she has on and off the table. It was shocking to see such a sweet face have such a temper and be so rude.

I have known Jennifer personally for many years and she has always been very polite and generous to me. I just come back from Taiwan. While I was there, she was the most hospitable even though she was very busy with her restaurant and other businesses. I am very grateful for all her help to make my first trip to Taiwan such a delight.

Perhaps you have caught her on a very bad day. I can assure you that if you could spend more time with her, you opinion will for sure change drastically.

Oh hell no....

I can't believe you guys have not either witnessed or heard the stories about her emotional outbursts during her matches. I remember she was playing a match and there were some men playing matches along side her, and she missed an easy shot. She throws her cue to the floor and yells "F***!!!!!!" so loud that everyone in the room stopped and looked at her. Or how about the time she played my friend who is an A- player some $20 sets, he was getting the 8-ball from her. He beat her two sets and she started yelling and screaming something like "You little shit" and many more obscenities. I am really shocked that you don't know about her antics.

Its so funny because I used to think she was such a great person, but once I saw her real attitude multiple times I really don't like her anymore.

This thread was started because Jennifer wanted me to say hi to all the people on azbilliards.com and because she wanted to share her happiness with everyone here about being able to play on TV in the US on ESPN. I just talked to Jennifer last nite. She was extra nice to me even though she knows i am a ver big Ga Young fan. Jennifer played great and as Wally said, she came with some tough shots under extreme pressure. She certainly earned and deserved the win.

I heard about the Xbreaker and all the pros who bought them at the World Pool Championships. I hope it comes out soon to the general public. I dont know if anything can help my lame-ass break but im gonna try it for sure.

Jennifer came third in the Peoria tournament, which is a very respectable finish. I think she is playing very well right now and I hope she will do even better in NM.

I have never seen Jennifer Chen with a bad attitude. She doesn't like to lose but then again, who does. I watched her lose to Helena this afternoon and she was actually joking around when she was down 6-1 and she knew she was toast.

It makes me nausous to see folks post crap like this. One of the AZB pros gave her a ride to the airport today. Why don't you put out a feeler in the "ask ther pros" forum before you go off on here commenting on his ill temperament?

Please explain how what I posted is crap. It's the truth. I also thought her temper problems were common knowledge to all players.

How many people talk shit about Earl Strickland on this board? A whole lot. I don't see you jumping to his defense. Rowr! Hiss!

You must have had a very bad experience. I am sorry to hear that. It is not common knowledge and Jennifer does not have a temper problem. I have watched her play in many tournaments both in Asia and in the US and I have never witnessed anything like what you have described. She is competitive but she is not a player with poor sportsmanship.
Having said that, I have no doubt that you are telling the truth. I am just hoping you would perhaps step back and try to give her and yourself another chance. She is really a very nice person if you get to know her.
I hope one day you will find out what she is really like. Jennifer is nothing similiar to Earl Strickland.

Years ago ('92? 94?) a tiny room in L.A. capitalized on the timing of the L.A. Open and had a series of simultaneous tourneys one night. There was a little women's tourney (field of maybe 10) and a mixed scotch doubles tourney (Rapheal and Helena teamed up and won that one).

I beat Jennifer Chen in the first match of the women's. I readily admit that there's no conceivable way that I outplayed her: she was great even then and I was very green and just got really, really lucky. And boy, was she pissed. She had an entourage of people cheering for her every move, and every game I won, and esp when she lost, she had a total hissy fit... It had to hurt losing to a newbie in the first match of a stupid little tourney- in front of all of your fans. Again, this is over 10 years ago, and I don't know anything about how she behaves now.

But I think just like Strickland, if she wasn't so competitive and didn't want the balls so damned bad, she wouldn't be nearly as good as she is.
