Joel Davidas Joint Pin

Escott Cues
I am working on the ferrule of an OB shaft for a guy. It is being used on a Joel Davidas Custom cue because his original shaft is toast. He is interested in getting a second shaft and possibly move the rings to it. Regardless of the ring issue I want to make sure of the correct choice to fit the pin on the jd Cue.

The 3/8-10 pin I have does fit the shaft without any apparent binding, however they look visually different enough to second guess. I want to be sure what pin is in this cue so I can make sure the new shaft fits.

I know there is the modified 3/8-10, so I wanted to be sure it wasn’t some other variant I needed to be aware of.

Thanks for the information.
There's more suppliers of it than what people call the modified

It's crazy.
Yours for example looks like it came from Atlas.

I believe that it is an example of a 3/8-10 Modified. It is my understanding that there are several variations The minor diameter is larger that the standard. So the standard pin would fit just fine in the existing shaft. If you use a H3 3/8-10 tap for the new shaft it may fit on his existing butt but it would probably be tight. You may need to very slightly bore the ID of the new shaft or perhaps use a 3/8 -10 Modified tap. Proceed with caution. I hope that this is helpful.

Yes thank you for the advice. Especially the caution part.
He is still deciding if he wants me to do it or just order one. Either way I needed to know if it was a “normal” 3/8-10 Thread on the shaft.

Look at the thread profiles. The Atlas has the normal 60degree thread. The one on the right has almost a 90 degree. Likely the thread won't fit into your tapped hole.
