why does he do this? there is no other pro that i know of who does this. maybe he broke a finger a long time ago, and can't break with a closed bridge?

Umm, I've never seen him break with an open bridge. If he did, I'm sure it was an isolated incident due to some circumstance that dictated he do so.

NO, NO, NO check out the mosconi cup, i reckon, he changed his break, and now, breaks with an open bridge.

i also noticed this, i remember him breaking with an open bridge right inside the rail, i think it was more than once, i was surprised to see it, open bridge on the break is very rare for any descent players let alone a pro.

He did indeed break with an open bridge during the Mosconi Cup. He only did it when he broke from the right side, he used a closed bridge from the left side.

very perceptive worminater. i did not notice that when he changed sides he changed bridges, intresting.

I know a pretty solid player that's known for a big break that always uses an open bridge. It seems he always has good control of the cue ball too. Seems to unstable for me.

Johnny is known to change his break up. He changes his break depending on how the table is reacting. Considering he's one of the best players to ever pick up a cue, I'd say it sounds like a good strategy to mimic! :)

He broke with a closed bridge on the right hand side this weekend at the Brunswick Open in Valley Forge. He also won the tournament...after getting knocked to the loser's bracket early.

They guy's got an iron will. Gets stomped in his first match, and wins the whole damn thing. Awesome.
