I have a few c series mcdermott cues that I have had for years. I put a ob pro+ on one and love it, thought I would try a predator on the other it says 3/8x10 on the shaft but does not want to go on. Any thoughts on how to make this work? Thanks A

The minor and/or major diameter of the threads in the shaft is a little small. It needs bored and/or tapped.

Thank you, I was curious if it could be tapped or if that would ruin it.
It's possible, but very unlikely. It's something you could do yourself, but the tap is not standard and you'd likely only ever use it once.
Pretty much any cue repair person would be able to handle it for you.

I don't think it's the minor diameter, McDermott pins have a .287" ish minor, but it could be the length of the pin?
Just to make sure: your cue dosen't have a McDermott quick release pin?

No they are the old standard pin form early 80's.
It has the 3/8x10 on the shaft, but somehow not the same. Toothpick shows there is plenty of depth in the pin hole compaired to pin if that's what you mean.
Thanks

Thank you Sheldon, that was my next thought was trying it myself unless I can find someone local.

Good, sounds like you have done just about all the troubleshooting you can do yourself. The easiest now is probably to take it to your local cue maker. I'm fairly certain it's a quick fix :)

Very common problem. Shafts with inserts like Juma and phenolic are a tighter fit. Re-tap with an H3 tap should do the trick. No need to open the hole for a regular 3/8x10 screw. The industry standard is usually .281 minor.
The one offered by Atlas has a minor around .270.
I never liked it.

Thanks Michael, I went to where I bought my pool table and he loaned me one and it does work now. It was really tight even with the tap. It was almost like the hole was too small, there was no way it was ever going to work without retapping it.
