big pin joints are usually phenolic or similar synthetic.
Depends on the joint type https://www.pooldawg.com/brand/spartan/pool-cues/spartan-joint-adapter OB Carbon has the same insert.
My Revo with the radial pin has a plastic thread. I have seen shafts that were adapted from other pins that use a wood insert, so really just about any joint can be done with them.
