hey guys, ive been seeing a couple crappy cues with the joint pin in the shaft instead of the handle, why is that? is it better? and i have a buddy with a couple dufferin conversions like that also and i was kinda surprised to see it like that. how can you make it the opposite like how its supposed to be?

Well there are some lower end cues that put the joint pin in the shaft, BUT, there cues by Burton Spain and he put the pin in the shaft, his cues are worth many thousands now after his passing. Also John Robinson puts his joint pins in the shaft and he feels this is the strongest joint for his cues. He will put a cue on top of two blocks and stand on the joint and it doesn't break.

It is personal preferance as to whether you put the pin in the butt section or the shaft. Even though some low end cues use this method many high end cues also use it.

Yes, "crappy" is always better and please tell me how it's "supposed" to be.
It all revolves around the thermal-dynamics of the wood and it's transient deflection characteristics.
Reversing the orientation is $1,000 - crappy cue or not.
However, please be mindful that the tension-compression phenomena at the joint will also be reversed.
Hope this helps.
