I'm getting a new cue made and I like the flat faced 3/8x11 joint and pin combo.I do not like the hit of a steel joint but I like the look of it. My question is can I have the look of a steel joint but keep the feel of a wood to wood implex joint?

You could use a sleeved joint out of brass or stainless with an i.d. of approximately .750. It does firm up the hit. I don't remember what they weigh, maybe around a 1/2 ounce or so.

If I sleeve it then it will feel more like a non stainless joint as compared to a schon type stainless joint

I would say 'yes', as long as, as Mike previously stated, it is a thin walled sleeve as opposed to a thicker walled sleeve. If you notice, there is still a phenolic sleeve as well as a SS sleeve...this helps it to 'behave' more like a wood/wood joint cue. I cannot attest to weights, but this particular joint was done at 3/4" instead of the more typical 1"...and I have had similar with a 1/2" joint length as well. This is now my absolute preferred joint.
