Thanks for the update John...Tinsley and Paul have been on a tear as of late, finishing 1 -2 at the BCA Qualifier in Vegas, we're all rooting for them here in Modesto..........Marc Swisher

I think I won one of these tournaments back in 92, maybe 93. Do they have a list of the past winners John? I know I won a decent size tournament there back then but I'm not sure if it was the annual tournament. Peace, John.

Snap this thing off, Lance.

Tinsley seems to be playing good lately; I haven't seen Annigoni play for a long time but Tony and Amar play real, real strong.

Noticed Michelle Rakin is still in it- she dominates the local ladies and is young. She needs to go get herself some of that WPBA $$ in a couple years.

I asked Michelle a few years ago if she was going to become a pro and she told me she wanted to be a Dr instead. From what I heard, she was a straight A student in high school. I don't know if she went to college or not but she sure shoots a mean stick! I think she would do well in the pro ranks.

The last I heard, Michelle was in Pre-Med at Stanford and doing very well.
Pool is NOT at the top of her priority list.

They have had some other events over the years, but this one always draws 90 to 100 plus players. I believe this is the tournament you won. In a short race to six, lots of the matches go hill/hill and anybody might win it, but I would have to pick Amar Kang to win. Michelle got to the hill in her match with Annigoni and scratched on the break. She is liable to beat anybody in a short race. It is a true double elimination tournament, so whoever wins the hot seat is a big favorite. JOHN HENDERSON

I just got back from the Jointed Cue finals:

1. Tony Annigoni
2. Jeff Gregory
3. Tinsley Johnson
4. Amar Kang
5. Paul Juarez

Michelle Rakin took 8th. Great tournament. Jeff Gregory had to win two sets to 6 against Tony who was in the hot seat. Jeff won the first set but came up short in the second. Jeff was playing great and had a tremendous break. Tony came back in the secon set being down 4 to 2 and pulled it out including one 9 ball on the break.

Do you happen to remember the payouts?

Terry Stonier did a lot for pool around the Sacramento area. I even remember that he ran a 3-cushion tournament for awhile. His Monday night b 9 ball tournaments were where I learned to play. Does anyone remember another Sacramento pool staple named Gene Ahola? If so, any info on where he is?

He hangs out at Jointed Cue now. You can see him most weekdays at the Cue. He plays with Ted Ito, Eddie Clark and one or two others during the daytime.

You can call the Jointed Cue around 1 or 2 in the afternoon tomorrow. I saw him today at the Cue.

I think it's a testament to the late Terry Stonier that some of the best players on the West Coast would join 100 contestants or so to play for small dough. I played one of his Spring events when he was still alive in the 90's. Even then you had lots of players coming from out of town just to participate for the ego of it. The prize fund was very low, but the guys came anyway, mostly to play for the braggin' rights.

Rick,

I was stationed at McClellan AFB in 69/70. I used to play $2 9ball with Terry and Ted Ito all the time in the backroom. What a great place that was. I could play with Terry but Ted was another story. Ito must be very old by now because I thought he was old in 69...I think I played in the very first annual event...does the place still have the burger grill right up front as you enter?

Terry was a super guy...

Yup. After the owner Terry died, Dave, the son, took over. Dave re-finished the back room, it looks great!! He put four tables in the back and I beleive they're GCIVs. Ted Ito is still hitting the balls pretty darned good. I think he must be awful close to 80 now. He still likes to play for a few jelly beans if the game is right.
