Great article on how well Trump has been playing lately. One interesting bit was

Most ranking titles since the 2018 Northern Ireland Open
Judd Trump: 14
Neil Robertson: 5
Mark Selby: 4
Ronnie O’Sullivan: 4

For those that follow both sports, how does his current run compare to the likes of SVB and Archer when they were dominant?

Yes, quite the streak

Not to negate Judd’s great performance but O’Sullivan is world champion and Higgins and O’Sullivan didn’t enter this last tournament. Robertson skipped the one before. Judd enters everything.

Crucible coming up in April. Hendry 7 titles, OSullivsn 6, Higgins 4, Williams and Selby 3. Trump along with 4 other...one world championship. 10 entries who have won the World Championship.

Trump is a great player. However, I’ll pick Higgins or Robertson in the Worlds. However, I have never picked a winner so smart money goes to Judd.

I was curious, so I looked up who Trump beat in the Finals of those last 14 ranking titles.

13 of the 14 wins were against players in the top 20

7 of them were against players in the top 10. Including:

2 vs Ronnie
2 vs Neil
1 vs Higgins

I can’t speak for Archer, but SVB hasn’t done anything similar because he hasn’t really had the opportunity to do anything similar. There are fewer world class pool events in a year and a lot of the events he is able to play in isn’t at the same standard as WST tournaments. That’s not Shane’s fault of course.

On the other hand Trump has not been as successful in majors as he has been in regular events. His World Championship in 2019 brought his total to 3. Shane does have 5 US Opens (pools ecquivalent to a major) and 3 of them in succession.

in short, the landscapes are too different to make apples to apples comparisons.

Unsuccessfull at hosting majors too!🤣
How could I not?😊 (I was searching for an opening for a mild comment) lol

yes, impossible comparison. svb was in two consecutive world 9 ball championship finals iirc, losing to big ko and albin respectively. he was somewhat dominating on american soil, at least among american players. but at that time darren appleton was also a big force in many disciplines.

All incredible players at the top of their game and along with Selby and O'Sullivan the cream of the crop. It's never been easy to pick a winner since Davis' and then Hendry's streak but I would stilll go with Ronnie as he has won 6/20 of the last World Championships, can sometimes beat lower ranked players by just turning up, and produces the goods at some point in every tournament he plays.

Ronnie is the master of his own fate, nobody defeats him ‘if’ he plays his best. I thought he was finished 3 years ago. Glad to be wrong. Judd has performed so well that it’s shifted the pressure and attention away from O'Sullivan. Judd is now in the unenviable position that anything but a world championship will be a disappointment.
Then there’s Bingham, Murphy, Maguire: if one of them comes through it will only be a mild surprise and not a shocker. Snooker has a real depth of talent.

I think this is what makes what Trump is doing that much more amazing. In 7 of his last 14 ranking event wins, he had to play a top 10 opponent in the finals.

13 out of 14 were against players in the top 20

I'm guessing his Fargo probably went up a bit.
