Jump and Break Cue Question

Is it within the rules to have a shaft that you use for breaking and jumping with two completely different butts rather than the normal jump/break configuration where part of the butt comes off when jumping is required?

To make the change from break cue to jump cue would require breaking down the cue and installing the otherer butt. There is some confusion in my mind regardng the rules about breaking down a cue during a match.

If your playing cue stays intact, is this change within the rules?

I think the rule is only there because breaking down your cue while the other guy is shooting is a shark move. It's saying "this out is so easy I'm just going to put my cue away now", which has a psychological effect on the other player, and may cause him to choke.

I don't see anyone calling you on this rule as long as you announce what you're doing, and only do it when it's your turn at the table. Just ask your opponent "is it okay if I change to my jump butt?" They'll say yes unless they're a poor sport.

i would think if you have a shooting shaft for your BJ then you are clear. my understanding of apa at least is that 2 seperate cues are ok(one to break with) and one to shoot with.

If you break and immediated change your cue or shaft, it has no sharking intentions.

Whether or not its leagal depends on the rules played from tournament to tournament. For instance, at this years DCC you were not allowed to use a jump cue or change to your break cue to jump with. You had to use the cue you were currently playing with to make the jump shot. So maybe in a tournament setting it would be best to check with the TD first.
