Jump cues

Hello boys and girls,

Reno here. I've lived in Arizona the last 7 years, and I just moved back to central Illinois. The main thing I've noticed of players around here is that they ALL carry, and use, jump cues. Not just once in a while, but EVERY time they're hooked, they run for the jump cue. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining, mainly because I think it makes them much, much weaker players. If any thing, it'll help me work on my safes to freeze 'em up the balls I'm playing behind. I just wanted to hear some opinions on the matter. Jump cues...for suckers????

In AZ, players learn how to kick...one, two, even three rails. Except for Evans, he'll jump a full ball with his normal cue and draw it back three feet to run out on ya.

These cats around here just don't get it. Maybe it's because most of the action is on bar boxes or eight foot tables. Nothing but bangers around here man. Any opinions out there??

AGAIN, Were Playing pool, not basketball. Put the guy in Jail, let him wiggle out, not jump out.

I agree 100%. Now if I could only match up and with No JUMP CUES as a stipulation. Then, life would be good...

Let's not forget that you can also play a better safety. During the WPC I've noticed how many players were satisfied with very average safeties.

That has to do with the fact that people can just grab a special cue................and jab the cue ball into the cloth and jump over a ball. It is like safety play is something from the past. How much realskill does it take to jump a ball.......not a whole lot! But to kick 2 rails with the correct speed, then clip the object ball......and put some distance between the balls, leaving a safe or tough shot.............this takes a little knowledge!

IMO jump cues weaken both the over all game of pool and the players skill that uses one.Probably good for equipment sellers, though !

Hey Zim, I'm in my hometown Peoria, Illinois right now. But if I don't find a decent job in the next couple of weeks, I'll probably be heading to Chicago.

I'm originally from the O'Fallon IL area. It's about 20 minutes East of St. Louis. I'm familiar with Peoria area! Ever thought about looking for work near St. Louis, but live in IL?

Zim,

St. Louie is nice, but unfortnately it's Cardinal Nation. I'm true blue, Cubbie fan since I was born. That's why I'm heading to Chi-Town...since they'll be leading the NL central for the next few years with their young stud pitching rotation....before I get an apartment up there though, I need to figure out where the poolrooms are.

Contact Bob and Eydie Romano at www.midwestbilliardexpo.com and I'm sure they will have a pretty good list of Pool places! Gotta love em' Cubs! Best of luck in IL. Springfield has a few nice places to play, check them out!

Try jumping over a ball when the cue ball is glued or very close to another ball.

Furthermore, safety play is definetely not a thing of the past, in fact players need to do a far better job at it. IMO if a player leaves an average saftey which his opponent can easily jump over and or hit it off a cushion into saftety or pot it, then he deserves it. Should have done a better job. Just because the cue ball is covered does not make it safe. If you leave your opponent scratching his/her head on how to possibly hit the object ball, be it jump or using cushions, then that's a good safety.

I just hate those """PLAYERS""" that have to go get their JUMP cue. Put it together, or take it apart.............Then study it for 5 mins.......line it up..........jack up and spear the cue ball. Only to fire into the ball they thought they could jump and just end up lookin like more of an idiot than they already did. LOL............I know jumping has it's place, but everybody thinks they are Johhny Archer.........and think they can jump Mt Everst! There is a time and a place for jumping a ball. Not just to show off ya skills! or lack there of! Peace!!

Many of the pool rooms owned by serious players in Japan have house jump cues. I've seen them used twice.

lmao. I know exactly what you mean!

My point is more pointed towards safety play in general. Too often I see players satisfied with average safety shots.

As for jump cues I'm undecided; actually don't really care. I've got one myself just two weeks ago. I won it off this dude. If they were to ban it, I couldn't care less - at least I would'nt be losing any money. It's a lot of fun tho, I can jump and masse the cue ball, I can jump over a ball that's just a ball's distance away, and I've jumped and banked a ball in the side. It's a fun toy.

Btw ptm my jump cue is one piece so you would'nt have to wait that long for me. :p

You ain't jumpin it if I play ya safe.......lol. You'll be froze to the back of a ball, and a rail will be involved in getting a good hit......lol.

The opportunity to freeze your opponent to another ball doesn't always exist. Nor does the opportunity to leave your opponent safe in a spot where all of their kick options are taken away. However, an average safety is almost always better than a well executed sell out!

True.

However with an average safety, I not only mean a relatively easy escape but also a safety played without much thought. 9/10 times I'll see people shrug their shoulders and play the first available safety they see.

I don't treat this as an either/or issue. I see this as an area where most poolers need to do a far better job at.

Oh, I thought you were talking about the players in the WPC in Cardiff.
