Hit more "below center":

When you are lined up and are facing the cue ball from an elevated position you will see center ball, meaning the exact center of the ball. It's always where your cuetip would split the cue ball in two. So, once you know where center ball is then you have to hit below center in THE SAME WAY as you would on a normal shot to give the cue ball back spin.

How much spin you need will be determined by the angle and the distance to the object ball.

Here is a short video where I demonstrate draw http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3MXuziheWM

It is possible to draw the cue ball table length on a jump shot. I don't have the stroke to do that but I know plenty of folks who do.

Follow thru is essential.
Liberal use of chalk helps too
I can't do it with non-leather tips.

what you're asking about is an extremely difficult shot - bottom line is like pj said above - hit slightly more below centre.

but as john alluded to above, you need a damn good stroke!

Here is my experience:

I have a couple of cues I use for jumping one of them is a jumping cue with phenolic tip and the other is purple heart jump break with "canvas leather" tip, according to the cue maker. The harder phenolic is much better at jumping very close like less than a balls width. The canvas leather is better with draw and english. It is really not that hard to get draw or english when jumping as while the ball is in the air the spin isn't being reduced by the friction of the cloth. Try taking a phenolic tipped breaking cue and drawing the ball. While you might be able to do it you won't be able to do it to the extent you can with your regular cue.

Also technique is key here:

The lightest possible grip and a good sharp stroke. If you are jumping close and using the dart stroke do not try to muscle it, let the cue do the work.

The jump stroke is a different stroke, so, it could also be that the cue you are using with the hardest tip possible is helping you to jump better with the stroke you have.
