Building a few jump cues using purpleheart shafts. Using g10 ferrule/tip combo. I was wondering if there's any benefit from adding a 5/16-18 tenon from a brass pin for added weight at the tip.
I first, will say I have only built one so far, BUT what I have read/learned about Jump cues is lighter is better, and stiffness of the shaft is important. The one I built has a handle of 18" and came in at just under 9 oz. with a bamboo shaft. The customer loves it. Had to do longer handle as he is 6ft 4 and long arms. The G10 tip/ferrule will do well....no brass weight needed IMO.
Have you tried the Jacoby jumper? I have and it was nothing special. Light weight, stiff taper. G10 ferrule and G10 or phenolic tip works fine. I build mine with a 13.5mm tip diameter.
