Jump shot help needed.

I do good and pretty accurate when jumping a ball that is 8 to say 12 inches away from my cue. (the ball I'm jumping, that is) I've seen people jumping ball as close as maybe 3 or 4 inches. When I try to jump over one that is that close, I always clip it. I've tried to do what people have told me, loose grip, changing to dart style for jumping close balls. I just can't seem to get it. Anyone have anything for this that might help me?

Kick at it! Go around not over! Don't let youself get in that position in the first place!

this might sound like a stupid question cap.........but how tall are you? when the ball is that close you really have to get up on top of it, some people just can't get that high. a dart style somewhat eliminates that, but not entirely.

i'm sure that there are short people that jump very well, but from what i'v seen, the shorter people have more trouble with close jumps.

i'm 6ft, so i really haven't had a problem jumping, since i havent had to solve the problem, i'm probably not the best one to give advice, but its all i could think of.

You may have hit on something. I'm 5' 8", not vary tall. If you are correct Zims may have indicated that he was Just kidding, but maybe that is what I have to do. Which is what I do right now. I just deal with it in a different way other than jumping it.

Try hitting lower on the cue ball, but with cue at same angle. Almost appears to be a scoop shot from the angle you are looking at it. I can do this at 3 inches [between balls] without the CB touching the OB if I try and try again. (Can't just walk up to table and do this, maybe if I practice more?)

Note that I am using a dime shaped phenolic tip. I don't know if that matters?

Here is a video of a jump shot where the balls are close. See that he is hitting near the lower edge of the ball...

Height is a factor depending on style. Extremely loose grip is a plus as you know. I'll just say don't "drive" the c/b into the slate. That is why a loose grip is so important along with angle of approach. You need to let go --persay as it really is a throw type shot up close. If there is any drive it traps the c/b which pushes it forwards and delays the jump. Up very close it is a throw shot so distance is a factor

Captain, I have the same problem im only 5'9" using dart style helps me up close but my accuracy is not as good.

The brand of my jump-break cue is J&J. Or that is what is says on the bottom. Standard diameter, 13. The tip is phenolic, but it is small like a regular tip and put on a ferrel. Going to get it replaced today and I'm considering having the full phenolic tip put on, you know the big one that doesn't have a ferrel. Either way, this time I'm going to use a nickel shape instead of a dime shape this time.

Regular small tip with ferrel or the big one with no ferrel?
nickel or dime shape?

Come on folks, you can help me be more undecided here.

i have the full phenolic tip/ferrule with a nicket shape. it actually works too good for me, as i had to learn not to hit the ball as hard when i jump.
