Jumping

I used to be the same way haveing problems and not being consistant. I just took the time to work on my jumping only and thats it for a couple playing sessions, started just practicing to hit the object ball , then set up shots to pocket object balls, then practice jump shots to stick the cue ball where I wanted to leave it. the leaving the cue ball where I wanted it after the jump was the hardest one to get down. It still is no exact thing for me to do but I get it close. I also have two different cue's which isn't a good idea either. I have a x-breaker for a break cue, and a predator air jump, for just jumping . I am alot more consistant with the predator, but sometimes to lazy to take the time to break it out !! LOL. x=breaker jumps good also but I tend to hit the jump shot alittle hard when I dont have to, then I get out of position. Also I had alittle difference jumping from a gold crown to a bar box. I have no problems jumping on the gold crown , I think it's because it has thicker slate which makes it easier for me, and I have a little problem getting the jump on the bar box. I dont know if it's so about the slate but thats my take on it. I may be totally wrong about the slate thing . A freind of mine told me it's all in my head. but thats my opinion !! good luck <<<<ED

Hold the cue loose(to prevent trapping the cue ball) and on the last stroke pull back the cue as far as you can without it slipping off your bridge. The extra distance will allow you to generate more power than you can with a short stroke. Snap(flip) your wrist as you complete the last stroke. If you're using a phenolic tip hit the cue ball closer to the center of the tip rather than close to the edge of the tip to prevent miscueing.

thank guys im gonna give it a try tomorrow when i play and ill get bak with yall and let yall know how it went

oh and i dont know if i mention it but im kinda short too so i dont know how much of a prt that plays but i use a players break jump with a one pice phenolic tip/ferul

i have the same problem sometimes, it is normally when i am trying to hard and i tend to drop my shoulder at the last second. I have seen others do the same thing. I dont know if that is what is happening to you but maybe just something to pay attention to next time. Good luck

Being short usually makes it tougher because your bridge hand tends to be smaller as well making it difficult to get enough stroke distance to develop the power required for a smooth jump. Stretch your fingers straight as much as possible to get all the distance you can between the cue ball and where the cue rests on your thumb. An extra inch of stroke distance will really help.

thanks for the tip on the shoulder i never thought about that and as for the bridge hand i ccan stand it up on the tips straight up and i have some wierd joints in my bridge hand with whats alled a hithers thumb so i can lock my hand straight and get it up tall but i might be setting up to close to the objet ball ill have to play around with that and see how it turns out
